    DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER

Gallery Les Bois was founded by Claire-Julia Hill, a passionate advocate for sustainability in the arts. Nominated as a finalist for the National Green Growth Awards, the gallery is leading a bold new wave in the art world. While studying art history at Cambridge, Claire-Julia kept coming back to the sense that something was missing in the art world—a space that brought sustainability and ethics into focus without losing the excitement and depth of contemporary art. That realization eventually became the seed for Gallery Les Bois.

Driven by a vision to create a gallery that felt both thoughtful and forward-looking, Claire-Julia launched the gallery with the mission to make environmental responsibility not just a theme, but a foundation. At 26, she took the leap, believing that sustainable art could be beautiful, challenging, and collectible all at once. Since then, Claire-Julia has been continually inspired by artists and the collectors who share this vision, creating a truly collaborative effort to shape a more conscious and sustainable art world.

At Gallery Les Bois, we ensure sustainability is integrated into both the artwork we showcase and the gallery's operations, including carbon tracking and mindful shipping practices. We’re demonstrating that sustainability, creativity, and excellence are essential for the future of art. We invite you to join us at the forefront of this exciting revolution, where art and responsibility go hand in hand.

    OUR MISSION

Gallery Les Bois was founded to rethink how we collect and engage with art—placing sustainability, purpose, and beauty at the centre. As London’s first sustainability-led commercial gallery, we believe that environmental responsibility is not a constraint, but a powerful curatorial lens.
From day one, our aim has been to challenge the idea that sustainability and sophistication are mutually exclusive. We support artists whose work is critically ambitious and ecologically conscious—whether through materials like plant fibres, industrial debris, or pigments drawn from polluted waterways. What unites them is a shared curiosity about the world and a commitment to working thoughtfully within it.
Sustainability at Les Bois goes beyond operations—it shapes everything we do. We use carbon-tracked, low-emission shipping; minimise waste in how we install and produce exhibitions; and partner only with suppliers who share our environmental values. We see this as an opportunity to lead by example and build a gallery culture grounded in accountability and care.
By integrating ethics with aesthetics, we aim to offer collectors and the public something deeper: work that resonates, inspires, and contributes to a more sustainable cultural future.

    SUSTAINABLE ART

Gallery Les Bois seeks to elevate the narrative around high quality art and sustainability, by increasing the prominence of sustainable and environmentally conscious artwork.  With artists that believe wholeheartedly in minimising their personal impact on the environment, whilst producing the highest quality art, Gallery Les Bois represents two broad category of artists; those that are fully sustainable and those that identify as environmentally conscious artists.  This approach allows us to support those who are not fully sustainable (for example oil painters) to drive change through their practice and choices, generating conversations and attendant actions that rewards environmentally aware suppliers and helps isolate those that continue to pursue environmentally damaging manufacturing policies.  This 'moving of the dial' represents an opportunity and driver for innovation and change.

To allow collectors and art enthusiasts to easily discern whether an artist is fully sustainable or environmentally conscious, we clearly indicate this in the labelling of our artwork.  Further, all of our artists are required to produce a sustainability statement, which is available to prospective clients.

  • OUR MISSION STATEMENT

AT GALLERY LES BOIS, OUR MISSION IS TO CHAMPION SUSTAINABLE, ETHICALLY PRODUCED ART THAT COMBINES CONCEPTUAL DEPTH, AESTHETIC EXCELLENCE, AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY.
