Gallery Les Bois founder, Claire-Julia Hill, has been shortlisted for Founder of the Year as part of the Sustainable Times RISE awards.
The awards champion organisations which focus on responsible investment and sustainability in their work. Those nominated represent companies which are committed to driving change through environmental and social responsibility. The Founder of the Year category celebrates leaders who have set up businesses with sustainability at their core and demonstrate resilience and innovation.
Claire-Julia founded Gallery Les Bois in October 2024 as the first sustainable art gallery in London. The gallery represents artists who are materially and conceptually aligned with ecological responsibility, from those who repurpose industrial debris or plant fibres, to painters using pigments pulled from polluted rivers. Claire-Julia utilises environmental responsibility as a powerful curatorial lens, rather than a constraint. Through founding Gallery Les Bois, she offers a new way of viewing the relationship between ecology and art. In this gallery, sustainability is not a limitation but the creative framework driving the project.
The successful launch of Gallery Les Bois' inaugural exhibition 'Offline' in Notting Hill earlier this year introduced the art world to this sustainable art collection. The showcase provoked visitors to reflect on environmentalism in the arts, including human impact, the materials of the craft, and the beauty of the natural world.
Being shortlisted for Founder of the Year reflects the impact of the gallery's work on bringing sustainability to the commercial arts sector.
The public vote is now open and winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 6th November 2025.
