Stratum (2024) is a vertical abstract painting by Michelle Gagliano, made with handmade oils on panel. Bands of ochre, charcoal, blue, pale grey and earth-toned colour appear to settle across the surface in successive layers. A narrow blue passage separates the darker upper field from a lighter, densely textured lower section, where fine linear marks gather and disperse. Measuring 122 x 91 cm, the work combines an architectural sense of structure with atmospheric shifts in colour and light.
