An evening of artistic insight

Gallery Les Bois is pleased to invite guests to Beneath the Surface: An Evening with Caitlin Heffernan and Michelle Gagliano, a special event taking place on 8 September 2026 from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at our showroom within World’s End Studios.

Bringing together two artists whose practices are deeply informed by their relationship with the natural world, the evening offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the ideas, inspirations and processes that underpin their work. Set against the backdrop of the current exhibition programme, the event will explore themes of landscape, memory, environment and the enduring connections between people and place.

Michelle Gagliano: a recorded reflection

The evening will begin with a specially recorded message from Michelle Gagliano. Although unable to attend in person, Michelle will share reflections on her artistic practice, the influences that shape her work and the themes explored within her exhibited pieces. Her contribution will provide guests with a personal introduction to the ideas that inform her creative approach and offer valuable context for understanding her work within the wider exhibition.

Caitlin Heffernan in conversation

Joining guests in person will be Caitlin Heffernan, whose paintings are renowned for their evocative engagement with landscape, atmosphere and the changing character of the natural environment. Caitlin will discuss her artistic journey, creative process and the experiences that inspire her work, offering attendees an opportunity to hear directly from the artist and gain a deeper understanding of the stories behind the paintings.

Landscape, memory and environment

The title Beneath the Surface reflects the purpose of the evening. Beyond the visual experience of viewing artworks, the event seeks to explore the layers of thought, observation and lived experience that contribute to artistic creation. It offers an opportunity to move beyond first impressions and engage more deeply with the themes and narratives that underpin the work of both artists.

At Gallery Les Bois, we believe that contemporary art can create meaningful connections between artists, collectors and audiences. Events such as this provide valuable opportunities for conversation and reflection, allowing visitors to engage directly with artistic practice and to explore the wider cultural and environmental questions that contemporary artists often address through their work.

Both Heffernan and Gagliano share a sensitivity to the natural world that resonates strongly with the Gallery’s curatorial vision. While their practices are distinct, each artist invites viewers to consider the emotional, sensory and environmental dimensions of place. Through their work, familiar landscapes become spaces for contemplation, encouraging a more thoughtful relationship with the environments that surround us.

Whether you are a collector, art enthusiast or simply curious to learn more about contemporary artistic practice, Beneath the Surface promises an engaging and insightful evening of art and conversation.
